This is the first GPS software I have used but I can tell you that this is a very powerful, robust GPS server that is also easy to use and understand. I connect my Garmin Etrex Legend with it and it works flawlessly. It downloads maps (Topo, Aerial Photo and Satellite) automatically from Microsoft's TerraServer and NASA's OnEarth server, storing them on the hard drive for offline use.  You can also download 3D views of the trails as well. The software is free to download and use. The only thing is you'll have topofusion watermarked on the images. As soon as I tried it for a few days I ended up paying for it, It's been well worth it!
